The Albuquerque metro area accounts for nearly half of the economic activity in New Mexico. Major manufacturing companies such as General Mills, Intel and Tempur-Pedic call Albuquerque home, as do a host of financial, insurance, and health care companies. The area is also home to large public institutions that often partner with local business and industry, such as the University of New Mexico, Sandia National Laboratories, and Kirtland Air Force Base.
