Robert Nelson

Robert is a certified public accountant and a Senior Audit Manager with KPMG’s Albuquerque office. Robert has over 11 years of experience in the public accounting industry, specializing in Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) registrants, conducting financial statement audits, internal control audits, and quarterly reviews. His primary focus is on clients in the energy, natural resources, and chemicals sector.
Throughout his career, Robert has led and coordinated various audit and attestation engagements. Some of his notable accomplishments include overseeing the audit and review of SEC filings, designing and executing audit procedures to assess clients’ compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, and managing international audit engagements across KPMG member firms. He is also experienced in reviewing regulatory filings and complex accounting transactions related to revenue recognition, decommissioning and reclamation costs, regulatory effects, impairment of assets, lease and power purchase arrangements, and income taxes.
In addition to his professional experience, Robert has been actively involved in the energy industry. He has been a speaker at conferences such as the Electric Edison Institute and the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissions, sharing his expertise with industry professionals. He has also served on KPMG’s Energy Natural Resources and Chemicals NextGen council and has been a national instructor for the firm’s training programs.
Robert is an Albuquerque native and graduate of the University of New Mexico.
