Mary Tieman

Mary Tieman is an accomplished leader and economic development professional with more than two decades of experience building thriving business communities, cultivating strategic partnerships, and championing entrepreneurship and innovation across the Southwest.

As Chief Operations Officer of the Albuquerque Regional Economic Alliance (AREA), Mary brings a deep commitment to advancing the regional economy through collaboration, technology, and workforce development. Her work is driven by a genuine passion for supporting local businesses, mentoring entrepreneurs, and connecting people with the resources they need to succeed.

Prior to joining AREA, Mary served as Community Relations and Membership Development Director for the New Mexico Technology Council, where she worked alongside technology industry leaders to cultivate meaningful partnerships and professional development opportunities across the state.

Before relocating to Albuquerque in 2018, Mary spent 14 years in southern Arizona, where she made a significant impact as the President & CEO of the Sierra Vista Chamber of Commerce, representing more than 540 businesses across the southern region. During her tenure, she served on the Arizona Workforce Development Board of Directors, the Arizona Association of Economic Development, and the Western Regional Chamber Executives network. She was appointed Commissioner for the City of Sierra Vista Tourism Commission and had the distinct honor of leading the Sierra Vista Leadership Program for four consecutive years. Earlier in her career, Mary was part of the executive team for the Cochise Private Industry Council, supporting Arizona Workforce Development programs and the Center for Academic Success Charter School.

Mary currently serves as President of the R4Creating STEM Education Board of Directors. A dedicated community servant, Mary has been an active member of the Del Norte Rotary Club since 2018, served as President in 2022, and was proudly recognized as Rotarian of the Year in 2019. She has also served as President of the American Businesswomen’s Association (ABWA) in Albuquerque.

Mary and her husband Allen are the proud parents of two daughters. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, exploring history, cooking, and sharing great food and wine with friends.
