City Attracts New Company Designing More Eco-Friendly Data Centers
National data center operator and developer relocating headquarters, creating jobs in Albuquerque
ALBUQUERQUE — Today, Mayor Tim Keller’s administration welcomes data center operator and developer ADACEN, LLC, to Albuquerque. Relocating its headquarters from Silver Spring, Maryland, the company is moving to Albuquerque to expand development and testing of new technologies designed to make the growing data center industry more eco-efficient.
“From day one, we’ve worked to build an economy that works for everyone and bring more good paying jobs to our city,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “ADACEN sees the tremendous growth opportunities that Albuquerque has to offer in both the tech and renewable energy sectors and we appreciate its investment in our city as it works to revolutionize the data center industry by making it more environmentally friendly.”
In addition to data storage for both government and commercial clients, ADACEN will use its Albuquerque headquarters, located at the Sunport, as a test and evaluation site for new technologies that emphasize the use of renewable energies and computer cooling techniques designed to vastly reduce the amount of water required to operate a typical data center. It expects to employ approximately 20 employees in the Albuquerque area within its first year of operation. As the company grows over the next several years, that number could rise to around 100.
“As we looked around the country for a place to relocate and expand our development and testing, Albuquerque quickly emerged as the leading contender,” said retired U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Jon M. Davis, the Chairman of the ADACEN Board. “In addition to the City being an attractive place for tech and renewable energy, the facility at the Sunport is ideal for the type of work we will be doing.”
“Today we welcome ADACEN to the Sunport family, further bolstering the local economy,” said Nyika Allen, Director of Aviation for the City of Albuquerque. “We look forward to our continued partnership and the innovative technology that comes along with it.”
ADACEN has signed a lease agreement with the City for a former Federal Aviation Administration building at the Albuquerque Sunport. City Council is scheduled to vote on the lease approval at its regular meeting this evening. In addition to leasing the building, ADACEN plans to remodel, including installing features that meet the latest ADA regulations and codes.
