Position will be responsible for advancing AREA’s national and international business recruitment efforts

Albuquerque, NM – The Albuquerque Regional Economic Alliance has recruited a new member of the team to fill the role of Director of Business Development.
Tim Morgan officially joined the AREA team on Monday, December 4. Tim is an economic development leader with extensive experience on the state, county, and city levels developing strategic plans, business recruitment, and destination development. Tim most recently served as an Adjunct Instructor in Highline College’s Hospitality and Tourism Management program in Seattle.
However, Tim is a familiar face to the greater Albuquerque region and to New Mexico. Recently, he served as Vice President of Economic Development for New Mexico Partnership, handling business recruitment efforts for the State of New Mexico, leading market visits and engaging with prospective firms and site consultants.
In other economic development roles, he served as the Economic Development Manager for the City of Maple Valley, Washington in the Puget Sound region where he conducted business recruitment, retention, and expansion efforts. Tim began his career in the sports industry and has worked throughout all levels of the industry including professional, college, amateur, grassroots, corporate, and sports tourism.
Tim’s tourism experience includes serving in destination development, sales, and marketing roles throughout the U.S. including State Tourism Director for the Delaware Economic Development Office; Tourism Development Manager for Clackamas County, Oregon; Vice President of Partnerships and Special Events for the Tacoma Sports Commission; and as Chief of Tourism for Charles County, Maryland.
“Tim’s diverse experience in a variety of industries for economic development purposes is a great match for our external brand development and marketing initiatives underway as part of our AREA 1.0 Strategic Plan, designed to grow our business attraction pipeline,” said Danielle Casey, President and CEO of AREA.
Tim will report directly to Chad Matheson, Senior Vice President at AREA, who is responsible to ensuring the organization is successful in ever-increasing its business attraction and retention profile through a data-driven and strategic approach. “Tim is such a natural fit for our needs, we are thrilled to have him on board as a real driver of our outbound recruitment efforts,” commented Matheson.
Tim holds a B.S. in Commercial Sports from Colorado State University (Ft. Collins, Colorado) and a Master’s degree in Sports Administration & Facility Management from Ohio University. Tim has taken extensive coursework in the economic development field and is currently pursuing CEcD certification (Certified Economic Developer) through the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). Tim enjoys outdoor recreation activities, traveling, teaching, cultural events, and attending author lectures.
