SOUTHWEST DEBUTS NEW NON-STOP SERVICE TO BURBANK, CALIF.
First Daily Non-Stop Service Between Albuquerque and Hollywood Burbank Airport Takes Off Today

ALBUQUERQUE — Today, Southwest Airlines begins its new daily, non-stop service between the Albuquerque International Sunport and Hollywood Burbank Airport. This is the first service offering between the two cities, and a momentous advancement that will allow the New Mexico film industry to continue to flourish.

“This is a huge win for New Mexico’s film industry and economic development opportunities,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Our relationship with Hollywood is only going to grow as we continue to demonstrate support for filmmakers, and this new service offering is an important step in that journey.”

A testament to Albuquerque’s growing film industry, this new service offers a quicker, easier option for those traveling to and from the San Fernando Valley. The Sunport has had its eye on direct service to Burbank for quite some time, and Southwest’s commitment to the market is an encouraging sign of both consumer demand and continued recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Today’s inaugural flight is an exciting signal of the increasing demand for Albuquerque as a business, tourism, and film destination,” said Richard McCurley, Interim Director of Aviation for the City of Albuquerque. “This new, non-stop service to the heart of Hollywood is sure to strengthen our state’s ties to the film industry and also provide a convenient option for travel between New Mexico and southern California.”

“The film industry is an integral component of our state’s economy and personality,” said Cyndy McCrossen, City of Albuquerque Film Liaison. “We are so ecstatic to be facilitating a stronger connection with the movie- making capital via this new air service, and are confident it will incentivize more projects to be filmed here in our beautiful state.
