Technical Assistance
SATOP is made up of NASA centers and sub-contractors, space alliance partners, universities and colleges. They provide business owners with up to 40 hours of free technical support. Typically, a solution is provided within 90 days.
Sandia provides technical and business assistance services to New Mexico’s small businesses (generally defined as any with 500 employees or fewer). Small businesses can qualify for research hours valued up to $20,000 in rural counties or $10,000 in Bernalillo County.
New Mexico MEP is part of a national network that provides technical and business resources to manufacturers who are prepared to expand their capabilities and increase profitability. New Mexico MEP has an experienced technical staff with more than 250 years combined experience in areas that include: Lean Manufacturing, Quality Systems, Supply Chain Management, Business Planning, and Technical Standards. New Mexico MEP delivers comprehensive solutions to help strengthen the company’s local and global competitiveness. The program is affiliated with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
WESST Corp provides business skills training, product marketing/development opportunities and financial assistance to viable start-up and existing businesses throughout New Mexico. Financial assistance is provided through a micro-loan fund. I addition, WESST Corp is an SBA approved intermediary with staff qualified to aid clients in obtaining SBA or other loans. Through training programs that include classes and individual consulting, they help entrepreneurs make informed decisions, set realistic goals, create business and marketing plans and apply for loans.
Quality New Mexico has the tools to equip New Mexico businesses/ organizations to successfully accomplish their mission and achieve their vision. Quality NM is a not-for-profit service organization fostering and promoting performance excellence to all New Mexico businesses and organizations.
State and Local Government Agencies
The City’s Economic Development Department is the point of contact for assistance in obtaining Industrial Revenue Bonds and obtaining help from other city departments.
The state's Economic Development Department assists with business recruitment and technical assistance, statewide research and statistic development, redevelopment and revitalization assistance, international trade and small business resources.
The county government agency assists the business community in locating and expanding to Bernalillo County.
Financing / Taxes
The ELDC administers the SBA-504 loan program in New Mexico. Loans can be obtained for land, buildings and equipment. Simply put, the small business puts up a minimum of 10 percent, the SBA provides up to 40 percent at a fixed rate, and your bank provides the remaining 50 percent. Your bank becomes the first lien holder.
Capital Certified Development Corporation (Capital CDC) is a leading private, non-profit provider of business financing solutions throughout New Mexico.
ACCION provides access to business credit and training for entrepreneurs and is known for “micro-lending.” The organization provides loans from $500 to $50,000 in many New Mexico communities and recently began a significant expansion with $2.5 million provided by the New Mexico Small Business Investment Corporation, a state-chartered entity charged with filling capital gaps for business in New Mexico.
Formed in 1989, the New Mexico Community Development Loan Fund is a private, tax-exempt organization that provides loans, training and business consulting to entrepreneurs, business owners and non-profit organizations throughout the state and the entire Navajo Nation. Their services support the efforts of low-income individuals and their communities to achieve self-reliance and control over their economic destinies.
Training / Education
Students enrolled in this program are required to complete project work and summer internships at manufacturing companies. Students can assist you on such projects as plant layouts, process flow, studies, constraint analysis, and design for assembly — in short, any work performed by manufacturing engineers.
CNM offers excellent educational programs to prepare students for entering the workforce and for advanced and continuing education. CNM works with the business community to put together customized training courses for employers.
The WTC provides innovative, customized training at their location or company location and job training courses designed for professional development and skills upgrade.
Other Partners
TVC serves as a bridge between the public and private sectors for the commercialization of technologies developed at Department of Energy national laboratories —specifically, Sandia National Laboratories — and assists in the expansion of existing businesses.
The SS&TP is a 300+ acre internationally recognized technology community affiliated with Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) and adjacent to Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB). Resident companies and organizations have easy access to world-class facilities, technologies, scientists, and engineers. Currently 33 companies and organizations and more than 2,000 employees reside at the Sandia Science & Technology Park.
PNM’s Economic Development Department can provide businesses with detailed electricity cost estimates based on projected usage and site-specific power system designs to meet customer load and reliability requirements. In addition, they can provide assistance in addressing power-quality issues, assistance qualifying for best available rates and help with regulatory compliance and environmental permitting.
New Mexico BLN brings together businesses, state agencies, and community leaders to expand the employment opportunities for people with disabilities. BLN provides valuable information on employment, disabilities, accessibility and compliance. The organization also puts together training to educate the business community.
Procurement Technical Assistance Program (PTAP)
Administered by the Department of Defense Logistics Agency, PTAP provides government procurement assistance to small businesses. PTAP's business advisors are experienced in government contracting and offer a wide range of services, including individual counseling and training to enable businesses to successfully compete for government contracts.
WIA was enacted with the intent to insure that all Americans have the training they need to qualify for good jobs and to successfully manage their careers. WIA can assist employers with their training needs though customized and on-the-job training.
